Advisor Training Program - ATP
For 118 years, Delta Chi brothers have been providing leadership, advice, and support for our student groups. But it seems like for 117 years, we've been looking for the best way to do just that.
The 2008 Convention will not only be the host for all legislative, awards and recognition programming, but also the 2008 Advisor Training Program, or ATP for short. To download a copy of the 2006 ATP manual, click here.
What is the ATP?
- Networking opportunities - Rarely are there situations that happen at the student level that another advisor hasn't already had to deal with. The ATP will give you the chance to meet other support alumni, compare notes, exchange contact information, and share your successes and challenges while sharing in the fun of Convention.
- Leadership and mentorship skills – working with today's students can be completely different than just a decade ago. What's the best way to communicate with "millennials?" How can I be an effective role model for my brothers? Where is the line between being their friend and being their advisor?
- Personal and professional development - Included in the program track will be sessions related to developing yourself as a successful alumnus and a better equipped professional, hopefully allowing you to pass along that success to the men you lead.
- Recognition and thanks - The value of our support network is immeasurable. And we would like to use the Convention as an opportunity to thank you for giving of your time, talents and resources. All lead support advisors will receive special recognition ribbons to proudly display on their nametags. All advisors will also be recognized during the Convention and special awards will be presented for:
Current schedule of ATP
Although we are still nailing down the exact details of the program (booking speakers, arranging programming, etc.), we plan on having the ATP begin Saturday morning and run in a seperate section on Saturday afternoon. Sections of the ATP will overlap with some of the student programming since it relates to all of us, but there will be a significant portion set up just for you.
It is suggested that all lead support advisors ("BB"s, ABT Presidents, House Corporation Presidents, and Faculty Advisors) attend as part of their student group delegation. But we also understand that taking three days off of work can be difficult.
It would be ideal for those attending the ATP to arrive on Thursday evening and stay through Sunday morning. ATP registration will include lunch on Friday and all three meals, including the Awards Banquet, on Saturday evening!
"I'm a support advisor, but I'm not a Delta Chi. Should I attend?"
Absolutely! We have a growing number of faculty members, parents, local business professionals, and other friends of Delta Chi that provide invaluable service to our student groups. We want you to experience the Convention so you can share the programming, fun and excitement that your students back on campus.
If you have any questions about how to register if you are not an alumnus, please feel free to contact the Convention Coordinator and he will be more than happy to help.
"Can I bring my family to Convention?"
Absolutely! We are currently developing a family & friends program designed to keep the ones you love entertained while you are in sessions and also involving them in all of the meals and extra-curricular activities like the Indians baseball game.
And if you're bringing kids and want a bit more space in your hotel room, you can upgrade to a one-bedroom suite to give the kids (and yourself) their own bed. And while the Convention's main purpose is to improve the Fraternity and rejoice in the bonds of brotherhood, we can't do that without the support of the ones we hold dearest in our hearts. The more the merrier!
