So the 2006 Cleveland Convention was nearing its end when Convention Coordinator, Matt Killingsworth, was invited to the stage to make a few important announcements. Included in those announcements was the confirmation of Las Vegas for the 2008 Convention location.

But there was a big surprise...

As Brother Killingsworth approached the podium, he was carrying two small black bags. After the Las Vegas video played, each banquet table also received its own little black bag. When instructed, each bag was opened to reveal a poker chip for every attendee.

So here's the bet...

For each of the red Delta Chi poker chips brought to the Las Vegas Convention in person by a registered attendee from the Cleveland Convention, a donation will be made:

  • Half to the Delta Chi Educational Foundation general fund to support programs like the Delta Chi Leadership College, the "A"s' Academy, the Leadership Consultant chapter visitation program, and various leadership and academic scholarships.
  • Half to the Delta Chi Fraternity, Inc. general fund to support general operations of the Fraternity that educational funds cannot cover, like the Quarterly, alumni services, fraternity archives preservation, the remaining costs of the above leadership programs, the website and other areas to make Delta Chi better.

With 560 poker chips handed out that night, that means there is a possibility of a sizeable donation from even a $1 per chip bet. As Brother Killingsworth said, "We need to continue to step up and support our brotherhood, and I'm putting my money where my mouth is. That, and I want to see everyone together again in Las Vegas with many more brothers!"

- NEW - UPDATE - NEW -

Due to the resounding success of the "Big Bet" Challenge, Brother Killingsworth has chosen to alter his $10 wager a bit. Now that the per chip value is way over the initial goal of $100, instead of his starting $10 per chip wager, he raised his wager to $1 for every $10 per chip others contribute to the "Big Bet", to his current "all-in" max of $20 per chip for both the Delta Chi Fraternity, Inc. and the Delta Chi Educational Foundation!!

Brothers continue to step up and match the challenge...

Thus, half of donations from the "Big Bet" will be made directly to the Foundation and the other half directly to the Fraternity. Donation installment plans will be available. The total number of chips counted at the 2008 Convention will be established by the Fraternity staff before the Saturday banquet and announced prior to the end of the 2008 Convention.
