Frequently Asked Questions

What is a convention?

  • A Delta Chi convention is a biennial celebration of brotherhood. It includes legislative sessions where changes to Delta Chi Law, the Ritual and dues are all debated. There is a Ritual exemplification, awards presentations, leadership programming, professional development and a whole lot more.

Who should attend a convention?

  • For student chapters/colonies - A reasonable delegation for a chapter/colony is at least four student leaders (particularly officers and emerging leaders) and either the "BB" or a support advisor. An effective delegation includes most lettered officers, a couple of emerging leaders and both the "BB" and ABT President. Chapters and colonies are encouraged to send as many brothers that want to fully participate in the convention experience as possible. Some of the largest delegations have included 12 brothers (Embry-Riddle, 2006) from officers to newly-initiated members plus multiple alumni (nine from Embry-Riddle, 2006).

  • For alumni - All alumni are more than welcome and are encouraged to join us at the Convention. Whether you are a volunteer alumnus for a student chapter/colony, a member of an alumni chapter, or just want to join hundreds of your brothers and reconnect with your Fraternity. For those alumni advising student chapter/colony members, there is an advisor training program.

  • For friends and supporters of Delta Chi - You don't have to be a Delta Chi to enjoy a convention. Parents, spouses, guests, Greek Advisors, and general supporters of our beloved Fraternity will have activities planned while we're busy debating Delta Chi Law. Many registration packages also include meals and group activities. We appreciate the sacrifices made by our alumni to spend time with us, so we want their families and friends to share in their great experience at a convention. Come out early, or stay a couple days later and make it a vacation!

Do I need to stay at the Riviera Hotel during the Convention?

  • Yes. It is a great property at an economic rate in a great location and all your brothers are there. If that's not enough, the group room rate we got is based on a minimum number of hotel rooms we need to rent. So if we have brothers staying at other hotels and commuting in, we run the risk of not hitting our minimums and being fined. Plus it's much easier to stay at the hotel and be able to run to your room in case you forget something.

What have other brothers done to afford to go to convention?

  • Anything from just setting aside $20 a week over the course of the year to something as extreme as donating plasma (not advised), brothers will do what they have to in order to attend Convention. Some approach their College or University student government asking for funding in exchange for the group hosting a leadership program when they return. Others have asked their alumni to sponsor brothers to attend or at least to help with the expenses. The hardest part is committing to make the trip. Once you have it in your mind that you don't want to miss Delta Chi's premiere leadership and brotherhood event, funding opportunities can be found.
