Send more, save more
When a chapter/colony registers online to attend the International Convention, the more members they send the cheaper the registration fee. Here's how sending more members makes it cheaper (and more fun) for each member to go:
1. Sharing fixed hotel and travel costs
Sharing costs by driving together and/or putting more men in a double bed hotel room makes it cheaper for each guy. For example, hotel reservations are $84 a night plus tax. That makes it roughly $92 per night per room. Now, if you put four guys in that room (each room is a maximum quad occupancy with additional fees) that makes it just $28.34 per person. You can barely get a room at a motel for that, and you get the Riviera Hotel and Casino. And if you want to splurge and spread out and put four guys in a one-bedroom suite, that breaks down to less than $60 per man per night.
When it comes to travel, driving is almost always cheaper for guys in or around the southwest U.S. At the same time, there are some opportunities on airlines like Southwest where if you can get at least 10 people flying as a group, they can get a cheaper airline rate. Being creative and planning in advance are the best ways to make your money go farther.
That, and road trips are fun. Turn the Convention into a brotherhood event and get to see more of the U.S. in the process. But please always remember to BE SAFE! Don't forget, chapters and colonies outside of the travel ring of Las Vegas will be eligible for travel reimbursement assistance.
2. Send more brothers to Convention and save on registrations
Again and again, Delta Chi has found that to be able to really improve your chapter/colony and get the most out of the Convention, it takes a critical mass attending the event to share the experience. That includes everyone from exec board members to new members and support alumni and advisors, so encourage them to join you on your trip to Cleveland.
To encourage more student members to register from each chapter and colony, Delta Chi is introducing a sliding fee scale for registration. More details about pricing will be made available closer to the Convention.
Please make every effort to have as many brothers as possible in attendance. There are also multiple sessions that take place at the same time, so to get the most out of the stellar leadership programming, bring enough brothers to attend all of the sessions.
* Some colonies and chapters were not billed or have not paid one or both of those chapter assessments. To find out what your chapter/colony is eligible for, please contact Delta Chi Headquarters.
- Please note that registrations will not be refundable, but can be transferred to another brother in your chapter/colony.
3. Ask for alumni and/or University support If your ABT or University (student government or Interfraternity Council) have funds available for leadership programming, securing that additional source of income can make all the difference in the world.
Say, for example, that your ABT is willing to contribute $500 towards the total costs of the trip, that could basically cover most hotel costs for up to four guys. Or if your IFC will cover the full registration cost for one person to attend the Convention in exchange for a presentation or programming when they return, that savings can be shared amongst all attendees from your chapter/colony, making it a little cheaper for everyone.
You may have never pursued outside funding to support your chapter's/colony's trip to Convention before, but I'll tell you: you will NEVER get it if you don't at least ask for it.
4. Request support from the Educational Foundation
If your chapter or colony has a named account with the Delta Chi Educational Foundation, those assets should be available to help more members attend the Convention. For more information about what your chapter/colony account balance is, contact the Delta Chi Educational Foundation.
