"Why should I attend the 2008 Convention?"

The reasons to attend Convention for student members, alumni, families, guests, Greek Advisors and other supporters of Delta Chi's mission to cultivate the values of friendship, character, justice and education are numerous. While some attendees should be there for reasons specific to their roles in the Fraternity, there are three big reasons why everyone should attend the 2008 Convention.

Reasons why everyone should attend the 2008 Convention...

  1. GREAT EXPERIENCE - It will be a fun, fast-paced program with great opportunities to meet new people, catch up with old friends, and celebrate the accomplishments of one another.

  2. IT'S VEGAS! - The city of Las Vegas is a destination within itself. Our host property is top-notch in its amenities, competitively priced, and located along the Las Vegas Strip with entertainment non-stop. So although the Convention program is the reason to attend, you will have free time to enjoy the city as well!

  3. BROTHERHOOD IN SPADES - The Convention provides you with an opportunity to show your support for our beloved Fraternity through participation in sessions, sharing meals with friends (old and new), applauding those who are recognized for their successes through awards, and possibly be recognized yourself for your service and involvement with Delta Chi.

Why should a student member attend?

  1. HAVE A GREAT TIME - If we had a dollar for every time an undergraduate said, after attending a convention, "I couldn't imagine having missed such a great event after having been here," the Convention would be self-funded. Along with all of the below reasons, simply put the Convention is a great time and well worth every penny.

  2. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT - Whether you are an officer, committee chairman, emerging leader or soon-to-be graduate, the opportunity to go through training sessions (personal, professional, and fraternity) and open forums, participate in international officer elections, or network with your peers about good ideas and problems to avoid will be available. There will be something that fits directly into your needs.

  3. REPRESENT YOUR CHAPTER - This is an opportunity to represent your chapter or colony in front of 600+ of your fellow brothers, prominent alumni, and guests. Aside from voting on matters that directly affect your chapter/colony, the interaction you have with brothers from other chapters while at Convention will be your "perspective" of that chapter when you share stories back home. How do you want your chapter remembered by others?

  4. AWARDS - All Delta Chi programming, individual and composite awards will be handed out in person at the Convention. Programming awards will be presented during the awards reception on Wednesday night, so make sure to get there on time. That night, all awards packets will be available for others to look through and compare. Then, on Saturday evening at the banquet, all composite awards including the President's Cups will be revealed and presented to the winning chapters.

  5. OFFICER TRAINING - If you are currently an officer or are planning on running for a position next year, the Convention should be a significant part of your training. From financial management and recruitment to chapter leadership and risk management, the major topics will be discussed in-depth by a variety of presenters. Your chapter/colony must send a minimum delegation anyway, so why not send a larger group and split the room and travel costs?

  6. PEER NETWORKING - Get to know brothers from other chapters/colonies in your state, in your region, in your conference (BIG XII, Sun Belt, etc.), or institutions of similar student populations, demographics, and/or living setup. There are so many chapters and colonies out there with different environments, you are bound to find groups that are similar to your chapter/colony or at least be able to learn from them.

Why should an alumnus attend?

  1. HAVE FUN - Different alumni have fun at conventions different ways. Some enjoy seeing old friends that they only get to see every other year. Some like to sit back and enjoy the show (banquet, awards, golf, etc.). Some use it as a chance to meet and compare notes with peers in their volunteer or professional field. Some just enjoy being around brothers and hearing the stories, discussions and new ideas that come from the convention. Others like working with and talking with undergraduates and being mentors to our future generations. No matter how you would define "fun," the Convention has something for you.

  2. REPRESENT YOUR CHAPTER'S HISTORY - Just as the student members in attendance represent the current chapter/colony at your alma mater, you represent the men who came before them. There are a growing number of chapters that have started using conventions as their own biennial reunion locations. There will be space provided free of charge (granted we are notified far enough in advance) for chapters or colonies to host their own alumni receptions during the Convention.

  3. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT - It's not just our "BB"s, ABT Presidents, and House Corporation Presidents who get a great deal out of the programming during conventions. This year we are developing both a fraternity advisor training track as well as a professional development track that will focus, respectively, on topics germane to Delta Chi and to you as a working professional. Life skills are useful in all environments.

  4. AWARDS AND RECOGNITION - Not only will there be awards presented for outstanding alumni service and overall excellence in their professional and avocational lives, 2006 brings with it the premiere of the Alumni Chapter awards packet. So for those of you involved in an alumni chapter, there will be opportunities to be recognized for all of the positive activities.

  5. IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE YOU'VE BEEN INVOLVED - No matter how long it's been since you've been back to your chapter, come to a convention, or had any contact at all with Delta Chi, alumni are always welcome to attend and reconnect. Even if it's just to say hi and see an old friend who you know will be there, we'd love to see as many new and old faces as possible.

Why should advisors and friends of Delta Chi attend?

  1. GET TO KNOW THE FRATERNITY - We greatly appreciate all of the men and women who continue to support Delta Chi as advisors on many of our campuses. The Convention gives you the opportunity to get a wider perspective on Delta Chi and the overall spirit of the Fraternity.

  2. NETWORK WITH PEERS - At some point in time, most problems you have to deal with have already been handled by another advisor on another campus. This is a great opportunity to make connections with other advisors (initiated and non-initiated) in your field to get and give support and share knowledge.

  3. AWARDS - All Delta Chi programming, individual and composite awards will be handed out in person at the Convention. These include recognition for outstanding advisors and volunteers, so make sure your chapter/colony applies for awards.

Why should family members and/or friends attend?

  1. FAMILY VACATION - Las Vegas is an incredible city that has gone through some major growth over the last 20 years. With all sorts of local attractions, nearby shopping centers, museums, and family attractions, it makes for an excellent win-win trip for Delta Chi alumni and their family/friends.

  2. SPOUSE/GUEST PROGRAM - We havealready started working on developing the 2008 spouse/guest program. Past programs included sight-seeing trips, private tours of the Library of Congress, shopping excursions, outings to local amusement parks, and general entertainment while we're all discussing Delta Chi Law and international policies.

  3. GET TO KNOW DELTA CHI - You might have already met many of your husband's/father's/boyfriend's/friend's fraternity brothers. I bet you haven't had the chance yet to see the full range of chapters, generations and levels of involvement. Conventions are a great time to get away from the routine back home, see a new city with a group of friends, stay at a great hotel of really good prices, and just have fun.
